How to Get Started with the HubSpot COS

You may have heard already, but at Inbound this year HubSpot has released what they’re calling their Content Optimization System (COS), a web development platform that has replaced their Content Management System (CMS). We are huge HubSpot fans here at New Breed, and we were lucky enough to be an Alpha tester of this platform and build our own website using it. What did we think? Well, in a nutshell, it rocks!

You may be wondering how you can get started on the HubSpot COS, well here are a few great first steps you can take:

1. General Education - CMS vs. COS

Do you know what a CMS is? Do you know what CMS you’re currently using? These are important questions to answer and will shape your next steps to move to the HubSpot Content Optimization System. A CMS is a platform that allows you to manage content from one central location online. Some common CMS platforms include WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and the HubSpot CMS.

2. Why Choose the HubSpot COS?

Moving your site to the HubSpot COS has many benefits, but here are a few that are our favorites!

  • Responsive design – ensure that your site is optimized for any mobile browsing platform
  • Smart content – tailor any page of your website your target personas
  • All in one integration with marketing automation and analytics software, landing pages, blog posts, CTAs, among the many HubSpot tools. 

3. Moving to the COS

Now that you’ve determined which CMS you’re currently using, let’s take the next step to optimization. HubSpot has renamed this platform because its integration with the greater marketing automation platform allows users to control all the aspects of their digital presence and content from one central hub.

There are two paths you can take to move your site to the COS.  If you’re already using the HubSpot CMS, your move to the COS will entail a platform migration. If you’re using a different CMS platform than your move to the COS will require a move to HubSpot, which as one of the most powerful marketing tools available to you will provide countless opportunities to improve your marketing beyond a new website.

4. Create Your Sales-Ready Site on the COS

This means that the site navigation structure and design is persona driven with clear conversion paths. A switch in website platform is as good a time as any to reassess your current site and your marketing goals to make sure that they are in alignment and that your site can help you achieve these goals.
